Day 20
Matching Christmas PJs for her and him is a great way to celebrate the Christmas Season. As a child on Christmas eve, our family would always open up new Christmas PJs. This would ensure that all the pictures taken on Christmas morning will be festive and picture-perfect. No run-down worn-out PJs. I have continued this tradition into my marriage and am excited to make matching Christmas PJs for him and her. Let’s start building her PJs!!!

Making Matching Christmas PJs for Her
Patterning the Christmas PJs for Her
Using Adobe Illustrator, I quickly edited some old patterns I had to create the long sleep shirt for her.
Cutting the pattern
I knew that I wanted to make sure that the pattern matched on my side seams. Therefore I paid close attention to my layout while I was tracing my pattern out.
Building the PJs
The Pleated Ruffle on the Christmas PJs for Her
Begin by adding the pleated ruffle to the bottom of the front and back. Fold the rectangle in half and serge the two sides together to finish cleanly. Serge the hem of the nightshirt as well so that both sides are finished cleanly.
Using the pleat formula, I was able to make the exact length of the pleat.
I pinned my pleats onto the hem of the front pattern piece of Christmas PJs for Her. Since I was using a plaid with a small repeat area, I used the pattern as my guide.
Using my sewing machine, I sewed the pleated ruffle onto the hem of the front of the nightshirt. Repeat the steps on the back of the nightshirt.
Adding the Sleeves
Make sure that when you cut out the patterns, you mark which is the front and back. This way, you don’t insert the sleeves backward!!!
Pin the edges together of the front of the sleeve and the front of the pattern. Pin about an inch from the edge so that they can be serged together without removing the pins or hurt your machine. Serge the seam. Repeat on the other three seams to sew your sleeves into the garment.
Sewing the Side seams
Begin by lining up the hems and matching the seam of the pleated ruffle. Slowly work your way up the nightshirt, making sure that the patterns are matching.
Pin and serge the seam together.
It may be slightly off, but my goal is to sew once and have the pattern very close!!! Repeat on the other side.
Yay, you now have an almost completed nightshirt!!!
Finishing the Christmas PJs for Her
Next, we are going to hem the neckline. Serge around the neckline.
To finish the neckline will turn the serging twice and do a zig-zag stitch. We do a zig-zag stitch to help with the stretch because if you only do a straight stitch, the stitch can pop and come undone.
Finally, we are going to finish the sleeve hem. Serge all the way around. I am going to finish the sleeve hem the same way as the Pants hem for him.
Time to try on your new Matching Christmas PJs for Her and get excited the Christmas is right around the corner!!!
