There are many ways to finish off the edge of a knit shirt. One technique that I like is pearl edging stitching! It’s quick and easy, so you can do it in no time at all!!! Pearl edge is one of my favorite ways to finish a knits shirt quickly and easily!!!

Check out the YouTube Video on how to set up a BabyLock serger to use the Pearl Edging Stitch

The first thing that we need to do to change the serger to the Pearl Stitch is removing the left-hand needle. Make sure to put the needle somewhere where you don’t lose it!!! I suggest in the cone of the thread associated with the needle. This way the needle can be found and inserted back into the machine after completing the stitch. I have lost a few more needles than I would like to admit.

Next, change the stitch to setting D. THis will change the tension so that the stitch looks correct.

Now take a look at the two knobs under the blade. Change the lower of the two knobs from regular to rolled hem around the 1 or 2 number. Then change the top knob to 3.5. This knob number moves the blade in and out. Depending on the fabric the top knob might need adjusting to cut more or less fabric off.

I love how easy it is to change the Baby Lock serger to create this stitch!!! It is completely possible to create an entire shirt on the serger!!! The serger is super fast to change and will achieve a large variety of stitches that you use!!
