How to Fix a LilyPad Coin Battery Board housing -

The LilyPad Coin Battery Board is so exciting! I’ve created a number of projects with them and they have been wonderful. However, two boards had their battery holders fall off recently which was really frustrating because now we’ll have to remake those pieces again – but not today though; let’s get started fixing this problem right away!!

Gather your materials

Broken battery board and metal thing that fell off
Third arm
Soldering Iron
Solder
Solder tip cleaning housing

Lets get Fixxing LilyPad Coin Battery Board!!!

Do you love wearable technology like me? I have these fabulous earrings with the Lily Pad button board on them. But sadly, the second one that I have has broken into two pieces, and I’m very sad because it’s not going to work anymore, so I’m going to see if I can fix it today. We will see what happens. I believe all you have to do is head over to my soldering iron and solder the leads right back onto this board.

Using my third arm, I’m going to stabilize my LilyPad Coin Battery Board and try to heat up the leads and solder that’s already on this board. I’m hoping that will be the easiest, quickest way for this to work, but it doesn’t seem to actually want to connect back together. I’m going to add a little bit of solder to all four points. Once I get half of the metal down it will be hard to add solder onto the other side.

Now that the solder is on all four pads I’m going to try to heat it up again. I still struggled to get the actual connection. It took a little some once I got it slightly on I added more solder to the connection. This created a little bit bigger ball of solder than I was wanting but it fixed the board so I am happy.

Wait for the solder and board to cool down, and give the projects a try. Insert a battery and check that the connections are working!!! Yay!!! The connections are not quite as pretty as I would like them to be, but good enough for now!!!

There we have it. The earring is all happy and fixed. It is ready for a night out on the town. Super excited, and it was super easy to get the battery board back in working order
